Slice and core the apples. Then, put all the apple slices into the crockpot. Zest the orange, and remove the remaining part of the peel. Add the zest and the peeled orange into the pot along with the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg.
Fill the crockpot with enough water to cover all of the apples (about 10 cups) and cook on high for 3 hours.
Remove the apples from the crockpot and mash them using a potato masher. Add the mashed apples back into the cider and add the granulated and brown sugars. Turn the crockpot to low and cook for another 2-3 hours.
Strain the cider with a mesh strainer or cheesecloth and discard the solids. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a sweeter cider, use a mix of Gala and Red Delicious apples for this recipe
If you prefer a tart cider, Pink Lady or Braeburn would work well
