Homemade Brownies Unlike Any Other

Homemade brownies are obviously one of the most popular and iconic desserts out there. If you spend any time at all looking at food or recipes online, (which seems likely since you’re here haha) you’ve probably seen tons of “Best Brownie Recipe Ever” blog posts that claim to make the ooiest, gooiest, fudgiest, most amazingest brownies that you will ever try… Now, I won’t try and convince you to compare these homemade brownies to others you’ve had in the past because the truth is, this particular brownie recipe is unlike any other.

After you try them, you’ll understand why there really is no comparison. In my opinion, these homemade brownies are nothing short of exactly what a brownie should be. This recipe will teach you how to make brownies from scratch the right way. Don’t take my word for it though. You’ve gotta try it to believe it.

Frosted Brownies: How It Should Be

First of all, we wanted to give all the credit to our amazing mom, who is one of the greatest bakers the world has ever known. One of the first things she taught us was how to make brownies from scratch. This homemade brownie recipe came from her and has been a showstopper for as long as I can remember. In contrast to regular old brownies, these homemade brownies have a slightly fluffier texture and are topped with frosting. In my humble opinion, frosted brownies are just superior all around. The tastes and textures create a deliciously addicting combination.

How To Make Brownies From Scratch

Making brownies from scratch is much easier than you might think. The prep time for the batter is about 20 minutes and for the frosting it’s about 5 minutes. You can whip these brownies up during a netflix episode or two. If you don’t have much baking experience, DON’T WORRY! This brownie recipe is super simple and easy to follow, so if you have always wanted to know how to make brownies from scratch, today’s your day.

When it comes to baking from scratch, our secret ingredient is whole wheat flour. We make almost all of our baked goods with whole wheat flour instead of white flour. There are many different benefits of doing so, but one of the most important reasons to use whole wheat flour is that it gives foods more flavor. From cookies, to cakes, to brownies, and beyond, we often recommend using whole wheat flour. You can usually buy it at most grocery stores in the baking aisle. Of course, this recipe can be made with white flour if needed, but if you want the full experience, grab some whole wheat flour while you’re ingredient shopping. You won’t regret it!

What You’ll Need

FOR THE BATTER

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cubes salted butter (softened)
  • 2 tbsp vanilla
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour (you can use white flour if you need to)
  • ½ tsp salt

FOR THE FROSTING

  • 1 ⅔ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cube butter (softened)
  • ⅓ cup evaporated milk
  • ⅓ cup cocoa

INSTRUCTIONS

FOR THE BATTER

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 18×13 inch sheet pan. (I recommend the Nordic Ware Baker’s Half Sheet.)
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, butter, vanilla, and cocoa. Then, beat in the eggs.
  3. With the mixer on low speed, add in the sifted flour and salt. Mix until fully combined, scraping the sides down as needed.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes and then let them cool. (I usually put them in the fridge so they cool down faster.)

FOR THE FROSTING

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, softened butter, evaporated milk, and cocoa. Beat with mixer until smooth.
  2. Remove the brownies from the fridge when completely cooled and frost, covering them completely.
  3. Serve and enjoy!
